Brush Biopsy: Cell samples are collected by scrubbing the lesion with a brush. This technique can collect cells deep in the tissue without the need for anesthesia. Cells are sent to a lab for analysis.
Incision Biopsy: A small area of the lesion will be removed for sampling,. These tissue samples will be sent to a pathologist to determine whether the lesion is cancerous or not (benign or malignant). This procedure will be done using local anesthesia (Novocaine or similar).
Excision Biopsy: Depending on the size of the lesion, the entire lesion will be removed for further investigation. This tissue will be sent to a pathologist to determine whether the lesion is cancerous or not (benign or malignant). This procedure will be done using local anesthesia (Novocaine or similar).
In the event that the cells are determined to be cancerous (malignant), you may need further evaluation and treatment.
